White House Fountain and Red Flowers - Washington DC Photography

The south facade of the White House stands in full summer light, the fountain throwing spray into a bed of red salvia and the building's white sandstone almost glowing. The residence was designed in 1792 by Dublin-born James Hoban, who modeled it on Leinster House in Ireland, and has been the home of every U.S. president since John Adams moved in unfinished in 1800. The South Portico — the curved porch in the frame — was added in 1824 under James Monroe. The composition crops out tourists and security, framing only architecture, garden, and water. The photograph captures Washington's most photographed residence in its uncomplicated summer dress.
