Sunlight floods through the polychrome stained glass of the Sagrada Familia, washing the basilica's interior columns in pools of rainbow light. The windows were designed by Catalan artist Joan Vila-Grau over nearly two decades, beginning in 1999 — warm reds, oranges, and yellows on the south and west walls catching afternoon sun, cool blues and greens on the north and east. Antoni Gaudí planned the basilica as a built forest, the columns branching upward like trees, with light filtered as if through leaves. The frame catches the moment the southwestern windows are at peak saturation. The photograph captures Gaudí's idea of weather indoors — colored sun on stone.
