Sagrada Familia Canopy Crucifix - Barcelona Stained Glass Photography

A suspended canopy floats above the altar of Barcelona's Sagrada Familia, the figure of Christ hanging beneath it as columns of stained-glass light pour down from the surrounding windows. Antoni Gaudí designed this baldachin as a hovering ellipse trimmed with vines, wheat, and small hanging lamps — a deliberate echo of the natural forms that govern the whole basilica, begun in 1882 and consecrated by Pope Benedict XVI in 2010. The frame holds the canopy against the soaring forest of branching columns, letting the warm and cool glass tones meet across the nave. A photograph of the basilica's most theatrical interior view — light, structure, and devotion in one frame.
