Philadelphia's skyline glows under blue building spotlights at night, the city's twentieth-century towers ranged against the dark Schuylkill. Lighting Philadelphia's tallest buildings in coordinated color is a relatively recent civic habit, taken up after the 2008 Comcast Center opening pulled the skyline upward and gave the city a centerpiece worth illuminating. Blue, white, and team colors now cycle across the cluster of glass towers depending on the night. Long-exposure shooting compresses the river's surface into stillness, letting the light from above carry the image. The photograph captures Center City at the hour the river goes black and the towers do all the talking.
