NYC Harbor Binoculars - Classic New York Viewpoint Photography

A coin-operated tower viewer aims out across New York Harbor toward the skyline of Lower Manhattan, the cast-iron binocular that still asks for quarters at every overlook in America. The viewer is mostly a Cuyahoga County invention — the Tower Optical Company has built them in Ohio since 1932, and they have outlived film cameras, payphones, and almost every other coin-operated machine in the country. Shot from behind, the device frames the city the way a visitor first sees it: through a fixed pair of lenses, with a time limit, on a sliding head. The most analog way left to look at the most photographed skyline on earth.
