Millennium Bridge to St Paul's - London Architecture Photography
The sleek glass and steel deck of the Millennium Bridge stretches in perfect symmetry toward the dome of St Paul's Cathedral, framing Christopher Wren's seventeenth-century masterpiece at the end of a twenty-first-century runway. Affectionately nicknamed the "Wobbly Bridge" after its famously shaky opening day in 2000, Norman Foster's pedestrian crossing now stands rock-steady above the Thames, its low-slung profile deliberately designed to keep the cathedral view unobstructed. Rain-slicked surfaces reflect the dramatic sky overhead, while pedestrians dotted along the span add scale and life to the composition. The glass balustrades channel the eye with surgical precision old and new London locked in a visual conversation across the river, each making the other more impressive
