Louvre Pyramid Reflection - Paris Architecture Photography

I. M. Pei's glass pyramid stands beside one of its reflecting pools in the Louvre's Cour Napoléon, the carved Pavillon Richelieu doubled in the still water alongside it. Completed in 1989, the 21-meter pyramid drew fierce objection for setting modern glass against the historic palace, yet its 673 diamond and triangular panes were designed precisely to mirror the older facades rather than compete with them. The Pavillon behind it belongs to the 19th-century Napoleon III expansion of the museum. Holding both in one frame, with the pool repeating the stonework, the photograph sets centuries of Paris architecture side by side. A photograph of old and new agreeing to share a courtyard.
