London Eye Ferris Wheel - Blue Sky Architecture Photography

The London Eye fills the frame against an unbroken blue sky, its rim, spokes, and glass capsules drawing a clean web of geometry over the South Bank. Designed by the architects Marks Barfield and opened in 2000 to mark the millennium, the 135-meter wheel is cantilevered — supported on one side only, like a giant bicycle wheel — and carries 32 capsules, one for each London borough. The bright sky removes every distraction, leaving only the curve of the rim against the tension of the cables. Shot straight up into the structure, the composition treats the wheel as pure line. A photograph of engineering read as drawing.
