The Hall of Mirrors runs the length of the frame at Versailles, its seventeen mirror-clad arches facing tall windows, crystal chandeliers and gilded candelabra marching toward a distant vanishing point above a parquet floor. Built between 1678 and 1684 under Louis XIV, the 73-metre gallery lined its garden wall with 357 mirrors — then a staggering display of wealth — and later hosted the signing of the Treaty of Versailles in 1919. Gold, glass, and painted ceiling, stretched to the horizon. The grandest room of the Ancien Régime.
