Great Wall of China in Mist - Mountain Landscape Photography

The Great Wall of China runs along a forested ridgeline, its watchtowers and battlements fading into the mist as the structure climbs toward the distance. Though earthen walls were raised here as early as the 7th century BCE, most of the surviving brick-and-stone sections date to the Ming Dynasty, built between 1368 and 1644 to guard the northern frontier. Comprehensive surveys put the total length of all the wall's branches and sections at more than 21,000 kilometers. The mist separates one stretch of wall from the next, turning the ridges into receding layers of grey. A photograph of a barrier that follows the mountains rather than fighting them.
