Hundreds of illuminated, flower-shaped lights bloom across a forest floor at twilight, turning the woodland into something between a garden and a circuit board. The setting is Longwood Gardens in Pennsylvania, the former country estate of industrialist Pierre S. du Pont and now one of the most visited public gardens in the United States, known for staging large-scale seasonal light installations among its trees. The stemmed lights shift slowly through color as the ambient daylight fails, the moment when the installation reads most vividly against the darkening trunks. Photographed at the balance point between dusk and dark, the image holds both. The photograph captures a forest briefly rewired into art.
