Chrome Fire Truck Siren - Close-Up Detail Photography

A chrome-plated siren mounted on the flank of a vintage fire truck curves the surrounding world across its polished dome. Before electronic sirens, fire apparatus carried mechanical sirens like this one — a motor spun a slotted rotor inside a fixed housing, chopping the airflow into the rising and falling wail that warned traffic ahead. The chrome shell was as much about visibility and pride of upkeep as function, a fixture lavished with polish on civic parade days. Framed tight, the siren becomes both subject and mirror, its convex surface bending street, sky, and the red of the truck into a single warped reflection. The photograph captures machinery turned looking-glass.
