Cast-Iron Facade and Fire Escapes - SoHo New York Architecture Photography
Free worldwide shipping · Made to order & shipped from a lab near you · Arrives in ~5–8 days (US) · Damaged? Free replacement.
The cast-iron facade of a SoHo loft building fills the frame, its painted columns and tall arched windows crossed by the diagonal zigzag of riveted iron fire escapes. Lower Manhattan's SoHo–Cast Iron Historic District holds the world's largest concentration of cast-iron architecture, prefabricated in the 1870s and 1880s when molded iron let builders imitate carved stone cheaply and quickly. Rust streaks the painted front and the stairs cut a bold Z across the columns. Industrial-age ornament and fire code, photographed as pure pattern.
