The bronze face of an antique sundial fills the frame in close-up, hour numerals and zodiac symbols engraved into the patinated metal with the patient precision of a craft that predates the printed book. The gnomon — the angled blade that casts the shadow — rises from the center, its angle calculated to match the latitude where the dial was meant to stand and read true. Sundials reached their technical peak in the seventeenth century, just before mechanical clocks made them obsolete, and the surviving instruments are some of the most beautiful objects ever built for a purely functional purpose. Production 1–4 business days; delivery roughly 3–6 days in the US, UK & EU and 5–10 days rest of world, tracked. EU orders are produced within the EU, so no import duties apply.
Returns — Arrives damaged, defective, or not what you ordered? Email ingo@elfering.com within 30 days with photos and we'll send a free replacement — or a full refund if we can't replace it. Because every piece is made to order, we don't accept change-of-mind returns.
