A woman reads her phone on a wooden bench at Baker Street, framed by the station's brick walls, glazed light wells and enamel name boards. Baker Street opened in 1863 on the Metropolitan Railway, the world's first underground line, and these platforms keep much of their Victorian brickwork. The roundel, the benches and the waiting passenger line up as if the station had been arranged around her. One commuter, a century and a half of platform.
