Statue of Liberty in Sepia - Dramatic Clouds Photography

The Statue of Liberty rises against a sky of dramatic high cloud, the image rendered in fine-art sepia. Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi's 305-foot copper figure was dedicated on October 28, 1886, a gift from the people of France to mark the centennial of American independence, and the engineering of her internal iron framework was the work of Gustave Eiffel a few years before he turned to his Paris tower. Liberty has held the same torch over New York Harbor ever since — through two world wars, the 1986 centennial restoration, and the post-9/11 security retrofit. Sepia ages the photograph toward the era of its subject, when the statue was new. Liberty as her first photographers saw her.
