Orange Tulips - Macro Flower Photography

A cluster of orange tulips fills the frame in macro detail, petals overlapping in close ranks of warm colour. The tulip is not a Dutch native — it grows wild across the mountains and steppes of Central Asia, and reached the Netherlands only in the sixteenth century by way of the Ottoman court. There it set off tulip mania, the speculative frenzy of the 1630s in which single rare bulbs traded for the price of a canal house before the market collapsed in early 1637. The photograph moves in close enough to lose the stems entirely, letting petal edge and curve fill the field. It captures the bloom that once stood in for money itself.
