Great Pyramid Stone Blocks - Giza Egypt Architecture Photography

The Great Pyramid of Giza rises in stepped tiers of weathered limestone against a clear desert sky, the camera close enough that individual blocks read as distinct masses. Built for the pharaoh Khufu around 2560 BCE, it is assembled from an estimated 2.3 million stone blocks and stood about 146 metres tall when finished — the tallest structure made by human hands for the next 3,800 years. It is the only one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World still standing. The photograph forgoes the postcard distance, pressing in on the masonry so the sheer accumulation of stone becomes the subject. Engineering on a scale that has never lost its weight.
