Blue Glacier Crevasses - Aerial Ice Landscape Photography

Sale price$45.00
Material:

Deep blue crevasses cut across the surface of a glacier, photographed from a small plane. The ice flows visibly here, slow rivers of compressed snow tens of meters thick, fracturing wherever the underlying bedrock changes pitch. Glacier ice appears blue because the compacted crystals absorb red wavelengths and scatter the rest — the deeper and denser the ice, the more saturated the color. From the air the pattern reads almost as topography in reverse: the cracks where the ice has pulled apart are the brightest, the stable flow is white. A study in motion frozen long enough to photograph.
