Base General Bernardo O'Higgins Antarctica - Chilean Outpost Polar Photography

Sale price$45.00
Material:

The Chilean naval station Base General Bernardo O'Higgins sits on a rocky outcrop in the Antarctic Peninsula, dwarfed by towering snow-covered mountains and massive glaciers behind. Icebergs drift through the deep blue waters of the surrounding sea while the Chilean flag flies proudly over one of the most remote permanently inhabited outposts on Earth. Named after Chile's founding father, this station on Isabel Riquelme Island has operated since 1948, making it one of the oldest bases in Antarctica a tiny foothold of human civilization in the world's last great wilderness.
