Antarctic Field Camp - Icebergs and Mountains Polar Photography

Sale price$45.00

A small research station sits on a rocky peninsula between drifting tabular icebergs and a wall of snow-covered antarctic mountains. The base is one of fewer than seventy permanent stations operated under the Antarctic Treaty System, which has governed the continent since 1961 and reserves it for peaceful and scientific use. The buildings are deliberately small — engineering for the climate, not for the view — and the surrounding ice does the rest. Photographed from a passing Zodiac to keep the camp inside the same frame as the geography that contains it. Human presence at the scale of the white continent.
